What is Breath Analyzer? Why it is useful?

Breath analyzer, also known as a Breathalyzer, is a device used by police to determine the amount of alcohol in the system of people who are suspected of being intoxicated. A precise amount of the suspect's exhaled breath is passed through a solution of potassium dichromate and sulfuric acid in the analyzer. The change in colour of the solution is proportional to the amount of alcohol in the air sample, which is directly related to the blood alcohol content. When the blood alcohol concentration exceeds 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters, driving ability is severely impaired.

Function of a Breath Analyzer

Breath analyzer (also known as breathalyzers or breathalyzers) have been around for a while, but few people understand how they work. Knowing how breath analyzer work can help you make an informed decision about purchasing one, as well as use your breathalyzer to get the most accurate reading possible.

How to check accurately Breathalyzer Reading

It is critical to remember that even the most precise breath analyzers are susceptible to influences from outside variables. To get the most accurate reading from a breathalyzer, you should do the following:

1)      Breathe normally before using it; both hyper- and hypoventilation will cause the reading to change.

2)      When you are at an 'ordinary' body temperature, use your breath analyzer; if you have been out in extreme heat, exercising, or out in extreme cold, wait until you feel comfortable at room temperature before taking your reading.

3)      If you've just given blood, allow for a wider range of readings.

4)      Make sure to calibrate your breathalyzer every 6-12 months. Machines that meet Australian Standards will be turned off at 6-month intervals until calibrated.

5)      When not in use, keep the breath analyzer in its protective case to prevent the sensor from becoming contaminated by environmental gases.
